The short answer
Mezo Health lets you see a registered dermatologist by private video call from anywhere in Nigeria, with their own fee shown before you pay. Video suits acne, dark spots, eczema, rashes, hair loss and nail problems you can show on camera. A mole that is changing needs to be examined in person. Swollen lips or throat, or a blistering, peeling rash, needs a hospital now.
Go to a hospital now if you have
Call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department now. Do not wait for a video call.
- Lips, mouth, tongue or throat that suddenly swell
- Difficulty breathing, wheezing, or a tight throat, with or without a rash
- A rash spreading across the body, or skin that blisters or peels, especially after starting a new medicine
- A swollen or sore mouth, eyes or lips together with a rash
- Red, hot, swollen skin with a very high temperature, shivering, a fast heartbeat, dizziness or confusion
- A rash that does not fade when you press a glass on it, with a fever, a very painful headache or a stiff neck
Have it examined in person if you have
These are not emergencies, but the NHS advises having them checked in person. A dermatologist on video can tell you where to go and how soon.
- A mole that has changed size, shape or colour
- A mole that is painful, itchy, bleeding or crusty
- A new or unusual mark on the skin, including the palms or soles, that has not gone away after a few weeks
What video handles well
- Acne, including the dark marks it leaves behind
- Dark spots, uneven skin tone and melasma
- Eczema, dry itchy skin and rashes from something that touched the skin
- Fungal infections of the skin, scalp and nails
- Hair loss, thinning and breakage, including hair loss from tight styles
- Rashes that come and go, such as hives
- Reviewing a cream or treatment you already use, including ones bought without a prescription
- Keloids, to plan treatment and decide what has to be done in a clinic
What video cannot do
- A new mole, or one that has changed size, shape or colour, including on the palms and soles: it needs a close look in person, and sometimes a small sample (biopsy)
- Procedures such as injections into a keloid, freezing, removing a lump, peels and laser
- Skin scrapings, swabs and samples for the laboratory, which are taken at a clinic
- Emergencies of any kind: see the warning signs below

- Photos taken in daylight, close up and from further away, if the problem comes and goes

Questions people ask
How much does a dermatologist consultation cost in Nigeria?
Each dermatologist sets their own video fee, shown on their button before you pay. The lowest on Mezo right now is ₦70,000. Medicines and tests are separate, and each is priced before you pay for it.
Can a dermatologist diagnose a skin problem over video?
Often, yes. Many skin problems are recognised by how they look and the story behind them, and a clear camera in good light shows most of that. Where it does not, for a mole that has changed or a rash that needs a sample, the dermatologist says so and tells you where to be seen.
Can I see a dermatologist online for hair loss?
Yes. Show your scalp in good light, parting the hair where it is thinnest. The dermatologist asks about styling, diet, illness, stress and medicines, and may order blood tests at a partner laboratory before deciding on treatment.
Should I bring the creams I am using?
Yes, every one, including creams bought at a market or online. Some contain strong steroids or other ingredients that thin the skin or cause the very marks you want treated, and the dermatologist needs to know what is on your skin.
Is there a free online dermatologist in Nigeria?
Not on Mezo. Every consultation is with a registered dermatologist whose time is paid for, and their fee is on the screen before you pay.
Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist on Mezo?
No. You can book a dermatologist directly. If another doctor has written to you or done tests, bring the letter and results as photos.
Can the dermatologist prescribe and order tests?
Yes, when it is right for you. A prescription is written on Mezo and can go to a partner pharmacy, where you pay on Mezo and collect it with a pickup code or have it delivered where the pharmacy delivers. Tests are ordered at a partner laboratory and priced from its own list before you pay.
What if the dermatologist says I need to be seen in person?
They tell you what examination, scan or procedure you need, how soon, and where. You can book it through Mezo, or ask for a call back and a care coordinator arranges it.
Something feels seriously wrong right now. What do I do?
Call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department now. Do not wait for a video call.
