Managing a parent’s diabetes or blood pressure in Nigeria from abroad

Mezo Health gives your parent in Nigeria a named GP who reviews them by video, orders their tests (collected at home in Lagos), adjusts their treatment and books the next review. You can hold the membership, pay every bill with a link from wherever you are, and with your parent’s agreement receive a written report of a visit by email.

How it works from abroad

  1. 1

Open one membership, add your parent

You can hold the membership and add up to four people to it, each at the price per extra person. Give your parent their own phone number on it, so the GP and the care team reach them directly.

  2. 2

Your parent sees a GP by video

With you on the call if they want you there. The GP goes through their history, their medicines and the results they already have, and agrees a plan and targets.

  3. 3

The same GP from then on

Your parent chooses that doctor, or another, as their GP. Each person on a membership chooses their own.

  4. 4

    Tests at home in Lagos

Blood and urine collected at home, so a review does not mean a day in a clinic queue. Outside Lagos, tests are done at a partner lab.

  5. 5

    You pay with a link

An unpaid membership, test order or follow-up consult has a pay page. Anyone holding the link can pay it, so your parent can forward it to you.

What it costs, and where the prices come from

  • Your GP: the price is shown before you join. A video consult with the GP is paid each time, at the member price.
  • Diabetes and blood pressure panel at home in Lagos: ₦95,000, collection included.
  • Doctor home consult in Lagos, when your parent needs to be examined at home: ₦75,000.

Medicines and any other tests are priced before you pay. Member prices apply on a membership.

How often your parent should be reviewed

It depends on the condition, and each programme page sets out the guideline’s intervals and the tests. Blood pressure is reviewed about monthly while treatment is being set and every 3 to 6 months once controlled. Type 2 diabetes needs an HbA1c every 3 to 6 months until stable, then every 6 months, with yearly kidney, foot and eye checks.

Questions people ask

How do I find a doctor for my parents in Nigeria?

Book them a GP video consult on Mezo. After it, they can keep that doctor as their GP, with reviews booked at the interval their condition needs. If they live in Lagos, a doctor can also visit them at home.

Will I be told how my parent is doing?

With your parent's agreement, the care team can email a written report of a visit to a family member they name. Your parent can also have you on their video consult.

Can I pay from abroad?

Yes. An unpaid membership, test order or follow-up consult has a pay page, and anyone with the link can pay it. Nothing is taken automatically.

Is this insurance for my parents?

No. Your GP is a monthly subscription, not insurance. Nothing is included: every consult, test and medicine is paid when used, at the member price, shown before you pay.

What if their GP leaves?

If your GP stops practising on Mezo, we offer you another GP, and nothing changes until you confirm.

Once a year, every year

When did you last have a full body checkup?

Blood count, sugar, cholesterol, liver and kidneys, a heart tracing, chest X-ray and abdominal scan, with a GP before and after. One price paid online, results in 3 days.
