Most people in Lagos do not avoid testing because of the cost. They avoid it because of the waiting room. So we designed the waiting room out of it.

Almost everything we screen for is treatable, and several of them are curable outright. The only outcome that cannot be treated is the one nobody tested for.

What people want to know first
Will anyone find out?
No. The nurse comes in plain clothes. Your SMS carries a reference and nothing else. Your statement shows Paystack and Consult for Africa, so there is nothing medical on it to notice. Results go only to the phone you booked with. We do not contact your HMO, your employer or your family.
What shows up on my bank statement?
Paystack and Consult for Africa. That is the whole line. Consult for Africa is the company Mezo sits under, and it reads like any consulting invoice. No clinic, no test, nothing medical. If someone else opens your statement, there is nothing in it to find.
How long until I know?
The Essential screen comes back within 24 hours. The Complete screen takes up to 72 hours because the swab has to be cultured. A rapid HIV test gives you an answer in 20 minutes at your kitchen table.
What if something is positive?
A Mezo doctor calls you the same day, free. Most of what we screen for is treatable and several are curable outright. You get a prescription and a plan, and if you need ongoing care you stay inside the Mezo network rather than being sent away to explain yourself somewhere new.
Do I need an appointment with a doctor first?
No. You can go straight to a screen. If you would rather talk first, book the private consult and the doctor will tell you which tests actually make sense for your situation.
How soon after exposure should I test?
It depends on the infection. HIV antibody tests are reliable from about four weeks and conclusive by twelve. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea can be picked up from about two weeks. If you are inside those windows, book the consult first and the doctor will tell you when to test.
Can my partner and I do this together?
Yes, and it is cheaper. The couples screen covers two people in one visit at less than two separate bookings, with separate private reports and a joint counselling call if you both want one.
