Kidney care, by video

See a nephrologist (kidney specialist) online in Nigeria

The short answer

Mezo Health lets you see a registered nephrologist (kidney specialist) by private video call from anywhere in Nigeria, with their own fee shown before you pay. Video suits a raised creatinine or protein in the urine, kidney disease reviews, kidney care with diabetes or high blood pressure, and second opinions. Severe breathlessness, chest pain or confusion needs a hospital now.

Go to a hospital now if you have

Call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department now. Do not wait for a video call.

  • Severe difficulty breathing: gasping, choking or not able to get words out
  • Lips or skin turning pale, blue or grey (on dark skin, check the palms, soles and gums)
  • Chest pain that feels tight or like squeezing, or spreads to the arms, neck or jaw
  • A pounding or irregular heartbeat that will not settle, with chest pain, breathlessness or faintness
  • Confusion, drowsiness or slurred speech, with a fever or feeling very cold and shivery
  • A fit, a collapse, or someone who will not wake properly

Be seen in person today if you

These are not emergencies, but the NHS advises urgent help. A nephrologist on video can tell you where to go.

  • Are peeing a lot less than usual, with thirst, vomiting, swollen feet or feeling dizzy, confused or sleepy
  • Feel breathless when lying down or from everyday activity
  • Have suddenly gained weight or swelling
  • Have missed a dialysis session

What video handles well

  • A raised creatinine, a low eGFR or protein in the urine on a recent test: what it means and what happens next
  • Chronic kidney disease reviews, using your latest results
  • Kidney care when you have diabetes or high blood pressure, the two commonest causes
  • Checking whether any of your medicines or remedies could be affecting your kidneys
  • A second opinion when dialysis or a transplant has been mentioned
  • Kidney stones: what the scan shows, and whether to see a urologist
  • Ordering kidney function and urine tests at a partner laboratory

What video cannot do

  • Dialysis itself, or a missed dialysis session: contact your dialysis unit the same day
  • A kidney biopsy, or starting dialysis, which are done in hospital
  • A sudden kidney problem (acute kidney injury) while you feel unwell, which needs blood tests the same day
  • Emergencies of any kind: see the warning signs below

How it works

  1. 1

Choose a nephrologist and a time

Pick a nephrologist below and a free slot on their diary, and choose a video consultation. Their fee is shown before you pay.

  2. 2

Pay online and get a private link

You pay securely on Mezo. The video room opens once payment is confirmed, in the browser on your phone or laptop.

  3. 3

Talk it through and leave with a plan

The nephrologist goes through your results and medicines with you and agrees a plan: treatment changes, tests at a partner laboratory, or where to be seen in person.

Have these ready

  • Your latest creatinine or eGFR and any urine test results, as photos
  • Earlier results too, if you have them: the trend matters more than one number
  • Every medicine and remedy you take, including painkillers
  • Recent blood pressure and blood sugar readings

Questions people ask

How much is a kidney specialist consultation in Nigeria?

Each nephrologist sets their own video fee, shown on their button before you pay. The lowest on Mezo right now is ₦25,000. Medicines and tests are separate, and each is priced before you pay for it.

Can a kidney doctor help me online?

Yes, for most of what a nephrologist does between hospital visits: reading your results, adjusting your medicines, controlling the blood pressure and sugar that strain the kidneys, and deciding what to test next.

Which tests should I have before the call?

Bring your latest creatinine or eGFR and a urine test for protein (urine ACR) if you have one. NICE uses the two together to stage chronic kidney disease, so if one is missing the nephrologist can order it at a partner laboratory.

Will I need dialysis?

Only a nephrologist who has seen your results over time can say. The NHS notes that kidney disease can get worse over time, but that kidneys stopping altogether is uncommon. If dialysis has been mentioned, a second opinion on video is a good place to start.

Do I need a referral to see a nephrologist on Mezo?

No. You can book a nephrologist directly. If another doctor has written to you or done tests, bring the letter and results as photos.

Can the nephrologist prescribe and order tests?

Yes, when it is right for you. A prescription is written on Mezo and can go to a partner pharmacy, where you pay on Mezo and collect it with a pickup code or have it delivered where the pharmacy delivers. Tests are ordered at a partner laboratory and priced from its own list before you pay.

What if the nephrologist says I need to be seen in person?

They tell you what examination, scan or procedure you need, how soon, and where. You can book it through Mezo, or ask for a call back and a care coordinator arranges it.

Something feels seriously wrong right now. What do I do?

Call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department now. Do not wait for a video call.
