Bones, joints and spine, by video
Online orthopaedic surgeon consultation in Nigeria, by private video call
Many bone and joint decisions turn on the story and the scan: how long, what you can no longer do, and what the images show. An orthopaedic surgeon can go through them with you on a call before you travel or pay for an operation.

The short answer
Mezo Health lets you see a registered orthopaedic surgeon by private video call from anywhere in Nigeria, with their own fee shown before you pay. Video suits X-ray and MRI reports, a second opinion on surgery, and follow-up after an operation. A new injury, or a joint that needs examining, is seen in person. Loss of bladder or bowel control with back pain needs a hospital now.
Go to a hospital now if you have
Call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department now. Do not wait for a video call.
- Back pain with numbness around the bottom or genitals, or loss of bladder or bowel control
- A bone that looks bent or out of place, or bone through the skin
- Severe pain that keeps getting worse in a limb in a cast or after an injury, with tightness or numbness
- A hot, red, swollen joint with a fever, or a wound after joint surgery that is red, hot and leaking
- A painful, swollen calf or sudden breathlessness after an operation or a long period of not moving
Be seen in person today if you
These are not emergencies, but need prompt help. An orthopaedic surgeon on video can tell you where to go.
- Cannot put weight on a leg after a fall or injury
- Have new weakness in a leg, foot or hand with back or neck pain
- Have back pain with a fever, weight loss without trying, or a history of cancer
What video handles well
- Going through X-ray, MRI and CT reports and images
- A second opinion on whether you need knee, hip, spine or hand surgery
- Knee and hip arthritis: what non-surgical treatment to try first, and when replacement makes sense
- Back pain and sciatica that has not settled after several weeks
- Follow-up after an operation, and wound and recovery questions
- Deciding between physiotherapy, an injection and surgery
- Choosing where to have an operation, in Nigeria or abroad
What video cannot do
- A new injury where a bone may be broken or a joint dislocated
- Examining a joint by hand to test its stability, such as after a knee injury
- Injections into a joint, casting and splinting
- X-rays and scans, which are done at a centre: the report comes back to the call
- Emergencies of any kind: see the warning signs below

Questions people ask
How much is an orthopaedic consultation in Nigeria?
Each orthopaedic surgeon sets their own video fee, shown on their button before you pay. The lowest on Mezo right now is ₦50,000. Medicines and tests are separate, and each is priced before you pay for it.
Can an orthopaedic surgeon tell me if I need surgery by video?
Often, yes, when you have recent X-ray or MRI reports. The surgeon goes through your symptoms and images and tells you whether surgery is likely to help. Some decisions need an examination in person first, and the surgeon will say so.
Can I have my follow-up after surgery by video?
Usually, yes. Wound checks with photos, pain, movement and return to work can be covered on a call. A wound that is red, hot or leaking, or a swollen calf, needs to be seen in person straight away.
Do I need a referral to see an orthopaedic surgeon on Mezo?
No. You can book an orthopaedic surgeon directly. If another doctor has written to you or done tests, bring the letter and results as photos.
Can the orthopaedic surgeon prescribe and order tests?
Yes, when it is right for you. A prescription is written on Mezo and can go to a partner pharmacy, where you pay on Mezo and collect it with a pickup code or have it delivered where the pharmacy delivers. Tests are ordered at a partner laboratory and priced from its own list before you pay.
What if the orthopaedic surgeon says I need to be seen in person?
They tell you what examination, scan or procedure you need, how soon, and where. You can book it through Mezo, or ask for a call back and a care coordinator arranges it.
Something feels seriously wrong right now. What do I do?
Call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department now. Do not wait for a video call.
