What remission means
Remission means an HbA1c below 48 mmol/mol (6.5%) for at least three months without diabetes medicine. It is not a cure: the tendency remains, so checks continue. In the DiRECT trial, almost half of people who followed a structured weight loss programme were in remission a year later.
What the 12 weeks include
- A doctor's review of your medicines, HbA1c, kidneys and eyes
- Nutrition therapy on Nigerian food: what to eat, how much and when
- Your sugar readings shared with your dietitian each week
- Medicines reduced only when your readings say it is safe
- HbA1c again at 12 weeks
Who it suits
People with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes whose weight is not the main problem. If your BMI is over the weight threshold, losing weight is the most powerful treatment, and the free check will send you to The Balance Clinic instead.

Can type 2 diabetes be cured?
Not cured, but it can go into remission, especially early on. Many people still need medicine, and that is not a failure.
Will I stop my diabetes medicine?
Only when your doctor sees your readings are safe. Never stop on your own: some medicines can cause dangerous lows if your diet changes.
What happens after 12 weeks?
You hand over to ongoing care with your own GP, with HbA1c checks on a schedule, or continue with Sito if you have further to go.
Then, if it suits you: ₦150,000 for the 12 weeks, medicines on top.
