How the price is set

Written quote after consultation

Consultant surgical opinion: ₦35,000

Your price is a written quote after the surgeon has seen your scans, because the operation, the stay and any intensive care change it many times over. It does not move without your written agreement.

What your written quote covers

  • The surgeon, the assistant and the anaesthetist
  • Theatre time and the equipment for the operation
  • Your bed and nursing care for the planned stay, including high dependency care where planned
  • Medication while you are admitted
  • Analysis of the tissue removed
  • Reviews with the surgeon after discharge

Not in the quote

  • The first consultation
  • CT, MRI and other scans that plan the operation
  • Chemotherapy or radiotherapy before or after surgery
  • Unplanned intensive care or a return to theatre

What decides your quote

  • Which operation is needed, and how much is removed
  • Days in high dependency or intensive care
  • A stent or drainage needed before surgery to relieve jaundice
  • A longer stay than planned

If an HMO is paying, the case needs prior authorisation before admission. Bring your HMO number to the first consultation and the desk will start it. If the plan declines, you are told the cash price before anything is booked.

Is it right for you

Who this is for

A good fit

  • A tumour in the liver, primary or spread from the bowel, that scans show can be removed
  • A growth at the head of the pancreas or the end of the bile duct
  • A bile duct narrowed by injury, scarring or a cyst
  • Some cysts and growths in the pancreas

When it is not the right answer

  • Disease that has spread too far for surgery to help, where other treatment is better
  • Anyone not yet fit for a major operation, until that is improved
  • Gallstones alone, which are usually treated by gallbladder removal or ERCP

What happens

The pathway, step by step

  1. 1

    Consultation with the surgeon₦35,000

Your symptoms, scans and blood tests are reviewed together.

  2. 2

    Scans and a team review

CT or MRI, and often a discussion with cancer doctors and radiologists, to decide whether surgery is the right treatment.

  3. 3

    Relieving jaundice first, if needed

A stent placed by ERCP can lower jaundice before the operation.

  4. 4

    A written price

The operation, the stay and the planned high dependency care, in writing, before admission.

  5. 5

    The operation

Several hours under general anaesthetic, open or keyhole depending on the operation.

  6. 6

    Recovery in hospital

Often one to two weeks, with close monitoring in the first days.

  7. 7

    Follow-up₦25,000

Wound and blood checks, the tissue results, and any further treatment planned with you.

Afterwards

Recovery, realistically

First days

Close monitoring, drips and drains. Walking with help as soon as possible.

Weeks 1 to 2

Eating returns step by step. Most people go home within this time.

Weeks 2 to 8

Tiredness is normal. Light activity, building up week by week.

After two months

Most people are back to normal activity. Some need digestive enzymes or diabetes care after pancreas surgery.

Risks you should be told about

  • Bleeding
  • A leak of bile or pancreatic fluid, needing drains or another procedure
  • Infection
  • Liver strain after a large liver resection
  • Diabetes or poor digestion after pancreas surgery
  • Blood clots in the legs or lungs

Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.

Questions people ask

Can this surgery be done in Nigeria?

Yes, by surgeons trained to do it, in hospitals with the theatre and high dependency care it needs. You see the surgeon first and are told honestly whether surgery here is right for you.

Why is there no fixed price on this page?

Because these operations differ widely, and the stay and any intensive care change the cost many times over. You get the price in writing before admission.

My eyes are yellow. Do I need surgery?

Not always. Yellow eyes in an adult have many causes, from hepatitis to a gallstone in the bile duct. A blood test and a scan come first. See a doctor promptly.
