Getting started with Mezo as a patient

Anyone booking care for themselves, a child, a parent or someone else they look after.

  1. 1

    Create your account

Sign up with your name, email address, a Nigerian mobile number and a password of at least eight characters. Tick the consent box so we can hold your health record under the Nigeria Data Protection Act.

We email you a link to confirm your address. It lasts 48 hours. You can book before you confirm, but confirming means your receipts and appointment details reach you by email as well as by text.

You can book a doctor or Health at Home without an account. Sign in first anyway: a booking made while signed in shows in your account, and a booking made as a guest can only be managed from the link we text you.

  2. 2

Choose the way in that suits you

If you know the kind of doctor you need, search the directory by specialty and city and book a slot yourself.

If you are not sure, tell us what is wrong and a care coordinator calls you back within one business day to match you to the right doctor and place.

For a fixed-price health check, an operation, or a doctor, nurse or lab test at your home in Lagos, go straight to those pages. Surgery starts with a quote: you describe the operation, a coordinator sends you a written quote, and you accept it from the link.

  3. 3

    Book and pay

Choose in person (and the place) or a video consult, then a date and time, then how you are paying: card or bank transfer, your HMO, or a package you have already bought. HMO is only offered when that doctor has an agreement with your plan.

The fee you see is the doctor's published fee. Mezo does not add a booking fee on top.

Your slot is held for 30 minutes while you pay. Payment goes through Paystack. When it succeeds you get a text and an email confirming the appointment, and another reminder in the 24 hours before it.

    • Pay only through a Mezo page or a Paystack checkout opened from one
    • Never pay a Mezo bill into a personal bank account
  4. 4

    Join a video consult

Open the appointment from Bookings, or from the link in your text if you booked as a guest, and tap Join call. The room opens shortly before your start time and you sign a short consent for care by video the first time.

Use a phone or laptop with a camera, a quiet place, and good data or Wi-Fi. If the call drops, rejoin from the same page.

  5. 5

    If your plans change

You can cancel or move an appointment free of charge up to 24 hours before it. Inside 24 hours a cancellation is not refunded and a change has to be made by contacting us.

If the doctor or Mezo cancels, you get a full refund, usually within five working days.

  6. 6

    After your visit

My Health keeps everything in one place: appointments, your health record, orders, prescriptions, verified results, referrals, bills and packages.

You can message a doctor you have booked with or been referred to. After a completed visit we text you to ask for a review; reviews are checked before they appear.

  7. 7

MezoCare and Your GP, if you want them

MezoCare is a membership, not insurance. It gives you member prices, and you still pay for each service when you use it. Your GP adds a named family doctor of your choosing on top of MezoCare.

Choose one month or twelve, and add up to four more people. You pay up front and nothing renews by itself: we remind you seven days before the end. If you choose a GP, you can switch to another after 30 days.

Current prices are on the MezoCare page and on the Membership page inside your account.

Questions people ask

Do I need an account to book?
No for a doctor's appointment or Health at Home, yes for checkups, packages and membership. We recommend signing in before you book so everything shows in My Health.
Is there a booking fee?
No. You pay the doctor's published fee, or the price on the package or quote, and nothing is added on top.
Can I use my HMO?
Yes where the doctor has an agreement with your plan. The HMO option only appears for those doctors when you book.
Does Health at Home cover my area?
It covers Lagos today. Enter your address on the Health at Home page and it tells you whether we reach you and whether a call-out fee applies.
