A soft balloon is placed in the stomach through the mouth, using a camera test under sedation, and filled with salt water. It takes up space, so you feel full sooner. It stays for six or twelve months and is then removed. There are no cuts and you go home the same day.

How the price is set

Written quote after consultation

Weight assessment with a consultant: ₦35,000

Your price is a written quote after the assessment, because the balloon type and how long it stays change it. Removal and the monthly reviews are in it. It does not move without your written agreement.

What your written quote covers

  • Placing the balloon, under sedation
  • Removing the balloon at the end
  • Monthly reviews and dietitian support while it is in
  • Medicines for the first days of sickness

Not in the quote

  • The first consultation
  • Blood tests before placement
  • Removing it early at your request, or a balloon placed elsewhere

What decides your quote

  • A six-month or a twelve-month balloon
  • Early removal because of sickness you cannot tolerate

Most HMO plans in Nigeria do not cover weight loss surgery, balloons or weight loss medicines. Bring your HMO number to the consultation and the desk will ask. If the plan declines, you are told the cash price in writing before anything is booked.

Questions people ask

How much weight does a balloon take off?

Less than surgery. Many people lose a useful amount while it is in, and keeping it off depends on the eating habits you build in those months.

Does it hurt?

Placement and removal are done under sedation. The first few days can bring sickness and cramps, which settle.

Can I have a balloon and then surgery?

Yes. Some people use a balloon to lose weight before surgery, which can make the operation safer.
