The diet stages after a sleeve or bypass
Your surgeon sets the exact timetable. Move up a stage only when the last one sits well.
- Weeks 1 to 2: clear fluids, then protein drinks
- Weeks 3 to 4: pureed food, a few spoons at a time
- Weeks 5 to 6: soft food you can mash with a fork
- From week 7: normal textures, small plates, protein first
Vitamins and blood tests for life
After a sleeve or bypass you absorb less iron, vitamin B12, calcium and vitamin D. Most people need supplements for life and blood tests every six to twelve months. Missing them can cause anaemia and weak bones years later.
If weight comes back
Some regain is common after two to five years. If a quarter of the weight you lost comes back, Balance brings in medicine with your doctor, and your surgeon if needed, rather than waiting.

I had surgery abroad. Can you look after me?
Yes. Bring your operation notes if you have them. Balance Aftercare covers the dietitian, blood tests and medicine if weight returns.
Do I need vitamins after a gastric balloon?
Usually a daily multivitamin while the balloon is in. Your dietitian will check what you need.
How much protein do I need after surgery?
Usually 60 to 80 g a day, more for some people. Your dietitian sets your own target.
