Stronger Together: marriage and couples
Marriage counselling in Nigeria, led by psychiatrists
The same argument keeps coming back. Trust has been broken, in-laws, money or the wait for a child are pulling you apart, or one of you has moved abroad and the distance is telling.
Couple · an assessment, 8 sessions and a check-in at three months · By private video across Nigeria
What happens on the course
Your first session is with an MDCN-registered psychiatrist, who checks the course is right for you and agrees the plan. Progress is checked with a relationship questionnaire and a mood questionnaire for each of you, at the start and the end, so you can see the change.
- 01An assessment together, then a short session with each of you alone, so both of you are heard
- 02Mapping the cycle you both get caught in, rather than who is to blame
- 03Accepting what will not change and changing what can, with practice between sessions
- 04Extended family, money and the decisions you make together
- 05A plan for keeping what you have built, and a check-in three months later
Questions about Stronger Together
Can we do marriage counselling online?
Yes. Sessions are by video, together, with a short session for each of you alone. Couples living in different cities or countries can join from wherever they are.
Why is a psychiatrist leading marriage counselling?
Many marriages under strain also carry depression, anxiety, drinking or grief in one partner. A psychiatrist can recognise and treat that alongside the work on the relationship.
Is it confidential? Will our families or church know?
Nothing is shared with family, employers or your church without your consent, and nothing medical appears on your bank statement.
What if only one of us wants to come?
Start alone. A first consultation helps you understand what is happening and how to invite your partner.
