Reset: calming a nervous system on high alert
Nervous system regulation in Nigeria: the Reset course
You are wired and always on edge. Your heart races, your chest is tight, you sleep badly and cannot switch off. You do not need a diagnosis to join.
Group or One to one · an assessment, 6 weekly sessions and a review · By private video across Nigeria
What happens on the course
Your first session is with an MDCN-registered psychiatrist, who checks the course is right for you and agrees the plan. Progress is checked with stress and anxiety questionnaires at the start and the end, so you can see the change.
- 01A one-to-one assessment with a psychiatrist, including what is driving it: stress, anxiety, past events, sleep, alcohol or a medical cause
- 02What stress does in the body, and why the alarm is not dangerous
- 03Slow, paced breathing and muscle relaxation, practised every day between sessions
- 04Sleep, and the habits that keep the body switched on at night
- 05The thought patterns that keep the alarm going
- 06A plan for the hard days, and a review two weeks after the last session

What is nervous system regulation?
It means teaching your body to come down from a constant state of alarm. The course uses methods with good evidence behind them: slow paced breathing, muscle relaxation, better sleep and cognitive behavioural therapy skills.
Do I need a diagnosis to join Reset?
No. Reset is for anyone who feels wired, tense or always on edge. Your first session is with a psychiatrist, who checks for anything that needs other treatment, such as an anxiety disorder, a thyroid problem or alcohol.
Is Reset a group or one to one?
Both are offered. Groups are small, by video, and you can join with your camera off and your first name only.
