Achilles Tendon Repair at Mezo Health in Lagos, Nigeria is priced in a written quote after a consultation from ₦50,000, because the right operation and its cost depend on what the surgeon finds. The quote covers theatre time, a cast and then a walking boot with heel wedges, and reviews with the surgeon after the operation. Prices last checked 3 November 2026.
The Achilles tendon joins the calf muscle to the heel. When it tears, usually during a sudden push off in football, badminton or a sprint, the ends can be stitched back together, or the foot can be held pointed in a special boot while the tendon heals. Both work when started early, and the choice depends on your age, your activity and how far apart the ends are. The same team treats ankles that stay painful or unstable after a sprain, often with keyhole ankle surgery. Your price is a written quote after the consultation and scan.

Written quote after consultation
Orthopaedic consultation: from ₦50,000
Your price is a written quote after the consultation and an ultrasound or MRI, because the repair, the boot and the stay differ from one injury to another. It does not move without your written agreement.

- The surgeon, the assistant and the anaesthetist
- Theatre time
- A cast and then a walking boot with heel wedges
- Your stay, usually a day case or one night
- Reviews with the surgeon after the operation
Not in the quote
- The first consultation and the scan
- Blood-thinning injections taken at home, if prescribed
- Outpatient physiotherapy after the boot comes off
What decides your quote
- A tear seen late, where the ends have pulled apart and a tendon graft is needed
- Arthroscopy of the ankle at the same time

If an HMO is paying, the operation needs prior authorisation before admission. Bring your HMO number to the first consultation and the desk will start it. If the plan declines, you are told the cash price before anything is booked.
How we pick your surgeon
Every Mezo surgeon is MDCN verified and approved for this operation before they take a case. You meet them before you pay.
Is it right for you
Who this is for
A good fit
- A complete Achilles tear in an active adult, seen within about two weeks
- A tear where the ends stay apart even with the foot pointed
- A tear seen late, or one that has torn again
- An ankle that keeps giving way, or stays painful, months after a sprain
When it is not the right answer
- Many fresh tears, which heal well in a boot without an operation
- Poor circulation, smoking or uncontrolled diabetes, where wound problems are more likely, until assessed
- Achilles pain without a tear, which is usually treated with exercises
What happens
The pathway, step by step
- 1
See a doctor quickly
A torn Achilles is best treated within days. Keep the foot pointed and off the ground until you are seen.
- 2
Consultation with the surgeon₦50,000
Examination of the calf and ankle, and a scan to confirm the tear and the gap.
- 3
A written price
The plan, the boot and any operation, in writing, before you agree.
- 4
Repair or boot
Stitching through a small cut under anaesthetic, or a cast and boot alone.
- 5
Follow-up₦25,000
Wedges come out of the boot step by step over the weeks, then physiotherapy.
Afterwards
Recovery, realistically
First two weeks
Foot pointed in a cast or boot. Crutches. Foot raised as much as possible.
Weeks 2 to 8
Walking in the boot, with heel wedges removed step by step.
Months 2 to 4
Out of the boot. Physiotherapy to strengthen the calf. Driving once you can brake safely.
Six months to a year
Running and sport return gradually. The calf may stay a little weaker than the other side.
Risks you should be told about
- Wound infection or slow wound healing after surgery
- The tendon tearing again, more likely if the boot plan is not followed
- Numbness on the outer side of the foot
- Blood clots in the leg
- A calf that stays weaker or a tendon that heals long
Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.
Questions people ask
Do I need surgery for a torn Achilles?
Not always. Many fresh tears heal as well in a boot as with an operation when the plan is followed closely. Surgery is favoured for some active adults, for tears seen late and for tears that have torn again.
Can I walk on a torn Achilles?
Some people can, which is why it is often missed. Walking on it can pull the ends further apart. See a doctor quickly, and do not have it massaged or tied by a bone-setter.
