Shoulder Arthroscopy and Rotator Cuff Repair at Mezo Health in Lagos, Nigeria is priced in a written quote after a consultation from ₦50,000, because the right operation and its cost depend on what the surgeon finds. The quote covers theatre time and the arthroscopy equipment, anchors and stitches named in your quote, and a sling for the first weeks. Prices last checked 3 November 2026.
Keyhole surgery on the shoulder through small cuts, with a camera in the joint. It is used to stitch a torn rotator cuff tendon back to the bone, to tighten a shoulder that keeps dislocating, to free a frozen shoulder that has not loosened with physiotherapy, and to clear the space under the shoulder blade where a tendon is pinched. Your price is a written quote after the surgeon has examined you and seen your scan, because the repair needed changes the operation and the anchors used.

How the price is set
Written quote after consultation
Orthopaedic consultation: from ₦50,000
Your price is a written quote after the consultation and your scan, because the size of the tear and the number of anchors change the operation. It does not move without your written agreement.
What your written quote covers
- The surgeon, the assistant and the anaesthetist
- Theatre time and the arthroscopy equipment
- Anchors and stitches named in your quote
- A sling for the first weeks
- Your stay, usually a day case or one night
- Reviews with the surgeon after the operation
Not in the quote
- The first consultation
- The MRI or ultrasound scan that plans the operation
- Outpatient physiotherapy after discharge, which is booked as part of your plan
What decides your quote
- A large or retracted tear that needs more anchors
- Repairing the labrum or the biceps tendon at the same operation
- An extra night in hospital
If an HMO is paying, the operation needs prior authorisation before admission. Bring your HMO number to the first consultation and the desk will start it. If the plan declines, you are told the cash price before anything is booked.
How we pick your surgeon
Every Mezo surgeon is MDCN verified and approved for this operation before they take a case. You meet them before you pay.
Is it right for you
Who this is for
A good fit
- A full thickness rotator cuff tear after an injury, especially in an active adult
- A rotator cuff tear that still causes pain and weakness after several months of physiotherapy
- A shoulder that has dislocated more than once, or a first dislocation in a young athlete
- A frozen shoulder that is still stiff after injections and physiotherapy
- A pinched tendon that has not settled with physiotherapy and an injection
When it is not the right answer
- Most shoulder pain, which settles with physiotherapy and does not need an operation
- A shoulder worn out by arthritis, where a replacement is discussed instead
- An old, very large tear with wasted muscle, which may not heal back
- Anyone who cannot keep the arm in a sling and do the exercises afterwards, because the repair depends on it
What happens
The pathway, step by step
- 1
Consultation with the surgeon₦50,000
Examination of the shoulder, its strength and its movement, and a look at any X-ray or scan you bring.
- 2
Scan
An MRI or ultrasound shows the tendons, the size of any tear and the state of the muscle.
- 3
A written price
The operation, the anchors and the stay, in writing, before you agree a date.
- 4
The operation
Under general anaesthetic, usually with a nerve block that numbs the arm for the first day.
- 5
Sling and early exercises
The arm rests in a sling while the repair heals, with gentle movement taught before you go home.
- 6
Follow-up and rehabilitation₦25,000
Wound check, then physiotherapy that builds up week by week.
Afterwards
Recovery, realistically
First weeks
Arm in a sling most of the time. Gentle movement as shown by the physiotherapist. Sleeping propped up is often easier.
Weeks 6 to 12
Out of the sling. Active movement and light daily tasks. Driving once you can control the car safely.
Months 3 to 6
Strengthening. Desk work returns early, heavy lifting and overhead work later.
Six months to a year
A rotator cuff repair keeps improving for up to a year. A stabilisation usually allows a return to contact sport after about six months.
Risks you should be told about
- Stiffness, which usually improves with physiotherapy
- The repaired tendon tearing again, more likely with large tears
- Infection
- Nerve or blood vessel injury, which is uncommon
- The shoulder dislocating again after a stabilisation
Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.
Questions people ask
Does every rotator cuff tear need surgery?
No. Many tears, especially in older adults, become comfortable with physiotherapy and an injection. Surgery is considered for a tear after an injury in an active person, or for pain and weakness that physiotherapy has not helped.
How long will my arm be in a sling?
Usually about four to six weeks after a rotator cuff repair or stabilisation, and only days after a capsular release, where early movement is the point.
Should a bone-setter treat a dislocated shoulder?
No. A dislocated shoulder needs an X-ray before and after it is put back, because a fracture or a nerve injury changes the treatment. Forcing it can cause further damage. Go to a hospital emergency department.
