Club Foot Treatment (Ponseti Method) at Mezo Health in Lagos, Nigeria is priced in a written quote after a consultation from ₦50,000, because the right operation and its cost depend on what the surgeon finds. The quote covers the weekly casts for the course quoted, the boots and bar for the first stage, and reviews during casting and bracing. Prices last checked 3 November 2026.
Club foot is a baby's foot that turns in and down. It is corrected without major surgery in most babies, using the Ponseti method: the foot is gently stretched and held in a plaster cast, changed every week for about five to eight weeks. Most babies then need a small procedure to release the tight heel cord, followed by boots joined by a bar, worn full time for about three months and then at night for several years. Started early and followed through, it gives most children a foot they can walk, run and play on normally.

How the price is set
Written quote after consultation
Consultant paediatric surgeon opinion: from ₦50,000
Your price is a written quote for the whole course after the surgeon has examined your baby, because the number of casts, the heel procedure and the boots differ from child to child. It does not move without your written agreement.
What your written quote covers
- The weekly casts for the course quoted
- The heel cord release, if needed, with local or general anaesthetic
- The boots and bar for the first stage
- Reviews during casting and bracing
Not in the quote
- The first consultation
- Larger boots as your child grows, and replacement bars
- Surgery for a foot that does not respond to casting or relapses later
What decides your quote
- The number of casts your baby's foot needs
- One foot or both
- Whether the heel cord release is needed
- An older child, who may need more casts or a different plan
HMO cover for conditions present at birth varies, and some plans exclude them. The desk files prior authorisation once the written quote exists, and what you would pay is confirmed before anything is booked.
How we pick your surgeon
Every Mezo surgeon is MDCN verified and approved for this operation before they take a case. You meet them before you pay.
Is it right for you
Who this is for
A good fit
- A baby born with one or both feet turned in and down that cannot be moved into a normal position
- An older child whose club foot was never treated, for whom Ponseti casting can still help
- A child whose club foot has come back after earlier treatment
When it is not the right answer
- A foot that turns in from the position in the womb and moves easily into a normal position, which usually needs only stretching or nothing at all
- A foot that is hot, swollen or very painful, which needs a doctor today

During casting
Your baby can feed and sleep normally. Keep the cast dry and check the toes stay pink and warm.
After the heel release
A final cast for about three weeks while the cord heals.
First three months of bracing
Boots and bar most of the day and night. Babies usually get used to them within a few days.
Until about four or five years
Boots and bar at night. This is what stops the club foot coming back.
Risks you should be told about
- The club foot coming back, most often when the boots are not worn as advised
- Skin sores from a cast or the boots
- A foot that needs further casting or an operation later
- The treated foot and calf being slightly smaller than the other, which does not usually affect walking
Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.
Questions people ask
Will my child walk normally?
Most children treated with the Ponseti method walk, run and play normally, and wear ordinary shoes. Wearing the boots as advised is what makes the result last.
When should treatment start?
As early as possible, ideally in the first weeks after birth, while the foot is most flexible. Older children can still be treated, but it may take longer.
Does my baby need a big operation?
Usually not. Most babies need only the casts, the small heel procedure and the boots. Larger operations are kept for feet that do not correct this way.
