Hypospadias Repair in Nigeria
The opening of the urine tube sits on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip. The repair moves it to the tip and straightens any bend, usually between six and eighteen months of age. A boy with hypospadias should not be circumcised before he is assessed, because the foreskin is often used in the repair.

- A very mild variant with a straight penis and a straight stream, which may need no surgery at all and is discussed honestly

Recovery, realistically

- The wound coming apart
- A bend that remains

Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.
Questions people ask
Can he be circumcised?
Not before a surgeon has seen him. The foreskin is often used to rebuild the tube. Circumcision can be done as part of the repair if you wish.
What age is right?
Usually between six and eighteen months, before he remembers it and before toilet training.
Will he need more than one operation?
Most repairs near the tip are done in one. Repairs nearer the scrotum may need two, and a small leak occasionally needs a second.
Will it affect him as an adult?
After a successful repair, most men pass urine standing and have normal sexual function.
