Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly.
Is every fever malaria?
No. Viral illness, urine infection, pneumonia and typhoid all cause fever. A test and an examination separate them, which is why we test before treating.
When should I see a specialist instead?
Start with the paediatrician unless you already have a diagnosis that needs a specialist, such as sickle cell, a heart murmur or seizures. The paediatrician refers within the same hospital when it helps.
