The short answer
Suleja sits on the Abuja to Kaduna road, and Kubwa station on the Abuja to Kaduna line is a short drive away, so getting to Kaduna is straightforward by road or train. Many people in Suleja are treated in Abuja; Kaduna is an option if you want a booked date with a named consultant, or the Abuja clinics you tried could not give you one soon.

Road or rail
By road you head north on the Abuja to Kaduna expressway, which has been under reconstruction, so allow for roadworks and check current conditions before you go. By train, Kubwa is the nearest station for most of Suleja and Madalla. Trains run to Rigasa in Kaduna on a timetable that has changed several times, so check the current timetable and book ahead.
Coming for a glaucoma or diabetic check
Not every visit is for surgery. If you need a glaucoma check or a diabetic eye check, the train makes a day trip possible. Remember that drops to widen the pupil blur your sight for some hours: you should not drive back yourself, and the train home may be easier if someone travels with you.
Planning the operation
For an operation, an overnight stay in Kaduna usually makes the next-day check simpler than travelling back and forth. If you would rather go home the same evening, ask the surgeon whether that is reasonable for your operation, and plan who will bring you back in the morning.

Common questions
Is Kubwa or Idu the better station from Suleja?
For most of Suleja and Madalla, Kubwa is nearer. Check that your train stops there on the day you travel, as timetables have changed.
Can I combine my eye check with a visit to family in Kaduna?
Yes, and many people do. Book the appointment for a day you are already in Kaduna, and the desk will confirm the time.
Will my HMO from an Abuja employer work in Kaduna?
If your plan is eligible, yes. The Mezo desk files the prior authorisation with the HMO before your visit, so bring your HMO card and ID number.
