Physiotherapy

Stroke Rehabilitation at Home in Lagos

After a stroke, recovery happens in the months that follow, and it happens through repetition. A neuro-physiotherapist comes to the house for two hours at a time and works on what the person actually needs to do there: getting out of bed, standing, walking to the toilet, using the weak arm, managing the stairs. The family carer is taught how to keep the work going between sessions, which is where most of the progress is made.

The pathway, step by step

  1. 1

    Book and pay online₦85,000

Tell us when the stroke happened, what the discharge summary says, and what the person can and cannot do now.

  2. 2

    Assessment at home

The neuro-physiotherapist assesses movement, balance and safety in the house, agrees goals with the patient and the family, and starts work the same visit.

  3. 3

    Regular sessions

Two-hour sessions, usually two or three a week early on. Progress is recorded against the goals each time.

  4. 4

    The carer's part

The family carer learns safe transfers and the daily exercises, because practice between sessions is what drives recovery.

What happens afterwards

Beyond six months

Progress slows but continues for many people with regular practice. It is not too late to start.

Risks and limits you should know

  • Fatigue after sessions
  • A fall during practice, which is why transfers are taught before anything else

Every treatment has limits and side effects. Yours are explained before you start, and you can always say no.
