Varicose Vein Surgery at Mezo Health in Lagos, Nigeria is priced in a written quote after a consultation from ₦50,000, because the right operation and its cost depend on what the surgeon finds. The quote covers the surgeon and the anaesthetist, theatre or procedure room time, and your recovery bed for the day. Prices last checked 3 November 2026.
Varicose veins are treated by closing or removing the leaking surface veins, so blood flows through the healthy deep veins instead. A duplex ultrasound scan first maps which veins leak. The options are surgery to tie and remove the vein, heat from inside the vein with a laser or radiofrequency catheter, or a foam injected to seal it. Most people go home the same day.

- Your recovery bed for the day
- Compression stockings for the weeks after
- A review with the surgeon after the procedure

- Darkening, hardening or eczema of the skin around the ankle
- A leg ulcer near the ankle caused by leaking veins
- A varicose vein that has bled
- Repeated painful inflammation of a surface vein
When it is not the right answer
- A suddenly swollen, painful leg, which needs a same-day scan for a deep vein clot first

- Some people with blocked deep veins or poor arterial blood flow, which the scan shows
- Thread veins only, which are a cosmetic question
What happens

Duplex ultrasound scan
A painless scan that shows which veins leak and checks the deep veins.
- 3
A written price
For the method chosen and the legs treated, before a date is set.
- 4

Under local anaesthetic for laser, radiofrequency and foam; general or spinal anaesthetic for surgery. Usually under two hours.
- 5
Stockings and walking
A compression stocking goes on straight away, and you walk the same day.
- 6
Review₦25,000
A check of the leg and the result, sometimes with a repeat scan.
Afterwards
Recovery, realistically
First days
Walk regularly. Bruising and tightness along the treated vein are normal.
Week 1 to 2
Most people are back at desk work within a few days, longer after surgery. Keep the stocking on as advised.
Weeks 2 to 6
Bruising fades. Avoid long flights and standing still for hours until the surgeon says otherwise.
Risks you should be told about
- Bruising and tenderness along the vein
- Numbness or tingling patches on the leg, usually settling
- Inflammation of the treated vein
- Skin staining after foam
- A clot in a deep vein, uncommon
- New varicose veins in later years
Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.
Questions people ask
Are varicose veins only a problem for women?
No. They are common in women, especially after pregnancy, but men get them too, particularly those who stand for long hours at work, such as traders, security staff and hairdressers.
Will the blood still flow if the vein is removed?
Yes. The leaking surface vein was not helping your circulation. Blood flows back to the heart through the healthy deep veins once it is closed.
Can creams or herbs cure varicose veins?
No. Creams may soothe itching, but nothing applied to the skin repairs the valves inside the vein. Stockings, walking and, when needed, treatment of the vein are what work.
Why is there no fixed price on this page?
Because the method, and whether one leg or both are treated, change the cost. You get the price in writing before anything is booked.
