General and Laparoscopic Surgery
The operations most people in Nigeria put off for years. A hernia that has been strapped up since 2019, gallstones managed with painkillers, piles nobody wants to discuss. These are planned operations with a known cost and a known recovery, and almost all of them are done as a day case or one night in. You see the consultant who will operate, you get the price in writing first, and the date is yours.

How care works here
- 1
A consultation with the surgeon who will operate
Not a registrar, and not a different surgeon on the day. You leave knowing whether you need an operation, which operation, and what it costs.
- 2
Work-up booked in one visit
Scan, bloods and anaesthetic review are arranged together rather than sending you back and forth across Lagos for a fortnight.
- 3
One all-in price, before you commit
Surgeon, anaesthetist, theatre, consumables and your ward stay in a single quoted figure. The things that could change it are listed on the treatment page, so there is no bill at the end you did not see coming.
- 4
A date you choose
Planned surgery means the list is built around your work and your family, not around whoever turned up at casualty that morning.
- 5
Discharge with a plan, and your doctor told
Written wound care, when you can drive, when you can lift, when you return. If a doctor referred you, the operation note and discharge summary go back to them.

Questions people ask
Can my hernia wait?
Usually, yes, and that is why most people wait for years. The reason not to is that a hernia that strangulates becomes an emergency operation, with a longer stay, a higher cost and a worse recovery than the planned one you have been putting off.
Will I need to stay overnight?
Most hernia repairs and haemorrhoid operations go home the same day. Gallbladder removal is usually one night. You are told which before you book, not on the day.
Is laparoscopic surgery available?
For selected cases. Keyhole surgery is not automatically better for every patient or every hernia, and a surgeon who tells you the open operation is the right one for you is giving you an honest answer rather than a cheaper one.
Can I use my HMO?
Yes, on plans that cover surgery. Every procedure needs prior authorisation first and the desk files it for you. If the plan declines, you are told the cash price before anything is booked.
