A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone, which heals for some months and then carries a crown. Whether an implant suits you depends on your gums, the bone where the tooth was, and your general health. At Mezo you start with an assessment in Surulere, with an X-ray, and are told whether an implant is possible, what the alternatives are, and who would place it and at what price.
Also called: dental implant, tooth implant, implant crown

What the assessment costs
The assessment and any X-ray are Mezo prices. The treatment itself is priced by whoever you are referred to, after their own assessment, and you are told before you agree.
| Treatment | Mezo price |
|---|---|
| First dental examination | Price on assessment |
| Full-mouth X-ray (OPG) | Price on assessment |
| Cone beam CT scan (3D X-ray), if needed | Price on assessment |
Who this is for
- One or more missing teeth, with healthy gums
- People who cannot get on with a denture
- A missing tooth where you would rather not crown the teeth either side for a bridge
What happens, step by step
- 1
Assessment
The dentist examines your mouth and takes an X-ray. A 3D scan may be needed to measure the bone.
- 2
Options
You are told whether an implant is possible and compared with a bridge or a denture, with the price of each that Mezo can arrange.
- 3
Placement
If you go ahead, the implant is placed under local anaesthetic by a dentist experienced in implants, and the crown is fitted after healing.
Afterwards
After placement
Some swelling and soreness for a few days. Healing before the crown is fitted usually takes a few months.
Long term
Clean around the implant as carefully as your own teeth and keep your check-ups.
Risks you should be told about
- The implant may fail to fuse with the bone
- Infection around the implant, especially in smokers or with poor cleaning
- Nerve or sinus problems, which careful planning with X-rays is meant to avoid
The dentist goes through the risks for your own mouth before you agree to treatment, and you can always say no.
Questions people ask
Does Mezo place implants?
Mezo starts with the assessment in Surulere. If an implant suits you, you are told who would place it, where, and the full price, before you agree.
Can anyone have an implant?
Not everyone. Uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, gum disease or too little bone can rule it out or need treating first.
How long does an implant take?
From placement to the final crown, usually a few months, because the bone needs time to heal around the implant.
