TURBT, Removal of a Bladder Tumour at Mezo Health in Lagos, Nigeria is priced in a written quote after a consultation from ₦50,000, because the right operation and its cost depend on what the surgeon finds. The quote covers the urologist and the anaesthetist, theatre time and the resection equipment, and your bed and nursing care for the planned stay. Prices last checked 3 November 2026.
Under a spinal or general anaesthetic, a telescope is passed through the urethra and the tumour is cut away from the bladder lining. It is both the diagnosis and the first treatment: the tissue shows what kind of tumour it is and how deep it goes, and for early tumours it may be all the surgery needed. A single dose of chemotherapy is often put into the bladder afterwards to lower the chance of it coming back.

How the price is set
Written quote after consultation
Consultant urology opinion: from ₦50,000
Your price is a written quote after the urologist has seen your cystoscopy and scans, because the size and number of tumours change the operation and the stay. It does not move without your written agreement.
What your written quote covers
- The urologist and the anaesthetist
- Theatre time and the resection equipment
- Your bed and nursing care for the planned stay
- A catheter and bladder washout, and its removal
- Analysis of the tissue removed
- A results review with the urologist
Not in the quote
- The first consultation and the first cystoscopy
- CT scans of the kidneys and bladder
- Chemotherapy or BCG courses into the bladder after the first dose
- Bladder removal or radiotherapy, if needed later
What decides your quote
- A large tumour or several tumours
- A single dose of chemotherapy into the bladder at the operation
- A second resection a few weeks later, where advised
- A longer stay than planned
If an HMO is paying, the case needs prior authorisation before admission. Bring your HMO number to the first consultation and the desk will start it. If the plan declines, you are told the cash price before anything is booked.

Is it right for you
Who this is for
A good fit
- A growth seen in the bladder at cystoscopy or on a scan
- Blood in the urine with a bladder tumour found as the cause
- A tumour that has come back on a follow-up cystoscopy
When it is not the right answer
- Blood in the urine that has not yet been investigated, which starts with a cystoscopy
- An active urine infection, which is treated first
- Clots blocking the bladder today, which is an emergency for a catheter and washout
What happens
The pathway, step by step
- 1
Consultation and cystoscopy₦50,000
The urologist reviews what the camera test and scans showed.
- 2
Scans
A CT scan of the kidneys, ureters and bladder, to check the rest of the urinary tract.
- 3
A written price
For the operation and the stay, before a date is set.
- 4
The operation
Thirty minutes to an hour through a telescope. Nothing is cut on the outside.
- 5
One to two nights with a catheter
The bladder is washed through until the urine runs clear.
- 6
Results and follow-up₦25,000
The tissue result decides what comes next: regular cystoscopy checks, a course of treatment into the bladder, or more surgery.
Afterwards
Recovery, realistically
First days
Blood in the urine and burning are expected. Drink plenty.
Weeks 1 to 2
Back to desk work. No heavy lifting. Bleeding can return briefly around day ten as scabs come away.
The months after
Cystoscopy checks at set times, because bladder tumours can come back, and catching them small keeps treatment simple.
Risks you should be told about
- Bleeding, sometimes with clots needing a washout
- Urine infection
- A small hole in the bladder wall, usually healing with a catheter
- The tumour coming back, which is why follow-up matters
Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.
Questions people ask
Is a bladder tumour always cancer?
Most bladder tumours are cancers, but many are found early, sitting on the lining without growing into the muscle, and these are very treatable. The tissue result after TURBT tells you which kind yours is.
Will I need my bladder removed?
Most people do not. Removing the bladder is considered when the cancer has grown into the muscle, or for high-risk early cancer that keeps coming back despite treatment. Radiotherapy can be an alternative. The decision follows the TURBT result.
Why do I need so many check-ups?
Bladder tumours often come back, and follow-up cystoscopy finds them small, when they can be removed easily. Stopping smoking also lowers the risk.
Why is there no fixed price on this page?
Because the size and number of tumours and the stay change it. You get the price in writing before admission.
