Burnout and Work Stress
Burnout is what long, unrelenting stress does to people: exhaustion that rest does not fix, a growing distance from work you used to care about, and a sense that you are achieving less however hard you push. Long hours, traffic, pressure at home and financial strain all feed it. Burnout itself is not a diagnosis, but it often slides into depression or anxiety, which are, and which respond to treatment.

Common Questions
Can I get a sick note for burnout?
If a psychiatrist finds you are unwell, for example with depression or anxiety, they can provide a medical certificate. What it says is agreed with you, and it does not need to name the diagnosis.
Is burnout just stress?
Stress is pressure you can still respond to. Burnout is what happens when it never lets up and you run out of reserves. If it has started to affect your mood, sleep and life outside work, it is time to get help.
