LASIK and Laser Eye Surgery at Mezo Health in Lagos, Nigeria is priced in a written quote after a ₦35,000 consultation, because the right operation and its cost depend on what the surgeon finds. The quote covers drops for the first weeks. Prices last checked 23 October 2026.
A laser reshapes the clear front window of the eye, the cornea, so that light focuses without glasses or contact lenses. LASIK lifts a thin flap first; surface laser (PRK) works on the surface with no flap; SMILE removes a small disc of tissue through a tiny opening, where it is available. The most important part is the assessment before any of them, because not every eye is safe to laser, and a good surgeon turns some people away.

How the price is set
Written quote after consultation
Consultant ophthalmology opinion: ₦35,000
Your price is a written quote after the suitability assessment, because the method, whether both eyes are treated, and your prescription change it. If laser is not safe for your eyes, you are told so, and the quote is not offered.
What your written quote covers
- Laser treatment of both eyes, unless one is agreed
- Drops for the first weeks
- Reviews the next day, at one week, one month and three months
Not in the quote
- The first consultation and suitability assessment
- Corneal mapping and thickness scans, where not already done at the assessment
- Reading glasses, which most people need from their forties whatever their distance vision
- Lens implant surgery, for prescriptions too strong for laser
What decides your quote
- LASIK, surface laser or SMILE
- One eye or both
- Astigmatism or a strong prescription
- A later touch-up treatment, if your eye needs one
HMO plans treat laser eye surgery as elective and do not usually cover it. The assessment may be covered as an eye consultation on some plans. You are told the cash price before anything is booked.
Who this is for
- Adults with short sight, long sight or astigmatism who want to be less dependent on glasses or contact lenses
- A prescription that has been stable for at least a year or two
- Someone whose work or sport makes glasses or lenses difficult
- People who cannot tolerate contact lenses
When it is not the right answer
- Keratoconus, a thin or cone-shaped cornea, which laser can make worse: this is what the corneal scans look for
- A cornea too thin for the prescription being corrected
- A prescription still changing, which is common into the early twenties
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding, when the prescription can shift
- Poorly controlled diabetes, some autoimmune conditions, severe dry eye or active eye disease
- Someone expecting never to need reading glasses again after their forties
The pathway, step by step
- 1
Suitability assessment₦35,000
Your prescription, an eye health check, and scans that map the shape and thickness of the cornea. Contact lens wearers leave them out for a period beforehand, which you are told when you book.
- 2
An honest answer
Whether laser is safe for your eyes, which method suits them, and what result to expect. If it is not safe, you are told why and what the alternatives are.
- 3
A written price
For the agreed method and both eyes, in writing before anything is booked.
- 4
The treatment
Numbing drops, both eyes usually treated on the same day. The laser itself takes under a minute per eye. You are in the clinic for a couple of hours.
- 5
Reviews
The next day, then at one week, one month and three months.
- 6
Later checks₦25,000
If anything changes, or if a touch-up is being considered.
Recovery, realistically
Day 1
Eyes are gritty and watery. After LASIK many people see well the next day. After surface laser the eye is sore for a few days and vision takes longer.
Week 1
Drops as written. No eye rubbing, no swimming and no eye make-up. Most people return to desk work within a few days of LASIK.
Weeks 2 to 12
Vision settles. Glare and halos at night are common at first and usually ease.
Risks you should be told about
- Dry eye, common in the first months and usually improving
- Glare, halos and starbursts around lights at night
- Under or over correction, sometimes needing a touch-up
- Problems with the LASIK flap
- Weakening and bulging of the cornea, rare, which careful screening is designed to prevent
- Infection, rare
Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.
Questions people ask
Am I suitable for LASIK?
Only the assessment can say. The usual reasons not to laser are a cornea that is too thin, early keratoconus, a prescription that is still changing, or other eye disease. A clinic that agrees to treat everyone is not screening properly.
What is the difference between LASIK, PRK and SMILE?
All three reshape the cornea. LASIK uses a thin flap and recovers fastest. PRK treats the surface with no flap, takes longer to heal, and suits thinner corneas and contact sports. SMILE works through a small opening and is offered where the equipment is available. Your corneal scans help decide.
Will I need glasses again?
Most people manage without glasses for distance. From the mid forties nearly everyone needs reading glasses, whether or not they have had laser, because the lens inside the eye stiffens with age.
What if my prescription is too strong for laser?
A lens implanted inside the eye may be an option instead. It is a different operation, assessed and priced separately.
Why is there no fixed price on this page?
Because the method, your prescription and whether both eyes are treated change the price, and because some people are not suitable at all. You get the price in writing after the assessment.
