What the test is for
FSH and LH are the hormones that stimulate the ovaries, oestradiol is made as an egg develops, progesterone rises after ovulation and prolactin can stop ovulation when it is high. Read together, at the right point in the cycle, they help a doctor see whether you are ovulating and, if not, why.
Fertility is a question for the couple. The cause can be on either side, so a semen analysis for the man belongs at the start, not after months of tests for the woman.

- Trying for a baby for a year without success, or sooner if you are 36 or over
- Irregular periods, or periods that have stopped
- Before fertility treatment, when a specialist asks for it
How to prepare
- Book on the day of your cycle your doctor gives you. A progesterone level taken on the wrong day can look low even when you are ovulating.

Which day of my cycle should I do the test?
Ask the doctor who requested it. Progesterone is timed to the second half of your cycle, and the right day depends on how long and regular your cycles are.
Can I pay at the lab?
No. You tick the test on Mezo, choose a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site that does it and pay online before you go. The price you pay is the price on this page, and the site has your order waiting when you arrive.
How do I get my result?
When the laboratory has checked and released your result, we send you a text message and you read it on Mezo, signed in to your account. If a doctor on Mezo asked for the test, they see it too. Mezo does not promise a result time on this page, because it depends on the test and the site.
