Malaria test price in Nigeria
A malaria parasite test (MP) costs ₦9,000 on Mezo, paid online and done at a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site. It looks for malaria parasites in a blood sample. Nigeria's national malaria guidelines and the WHO both say a suspected case should be confirmed with a test before any antimalarial is taken.

What the test is for
Treating every fever as malaria means people with other illnesses take antimalarials they do not need, while the real cause of the fever goes untreated. A test answers the question first. When it is done properly, a negative result usually means the fever is something else, and a doctor should look for the cause.
Many laboratories offer malaria and Widal together as a 'malaria and typhoid' test. A Widal result on its own cannot confirm typhoid, so book it only if a doctor suspects typhoid.
When a doctor asks for it
- Fever, chills, headache or body pains
- Fever in a child, after the danger signs below have been ruled out
- Before taking any antimalarial, so that you treat the right illness
How to prepare
- No fasting.
- If you have already started an antimalarial, tell the doctor: treatment can make the test negative while you are still unwell.
Go to the nearest emergency department now, not a lab, for
- Confusion, a fit, or being very drowsy
- Difficulty breathing
- Yellow eyes, or dark or cola-coloured urine
- Being unable to keep any fluid down
- A child under five with fever who cannot drink, vomits everything or is very sleepy

Malaria parasite test (MP): questions people ask
How much is a malaria test in Nigeria?
₦9,000 on Mezo for the malaria parasite test, or ₦13,000 with a Widal test. You pay online and do the test at a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site.
My malaria test was negative but I still have a fever. Should I take antimalarials anyway?
No. A negative test done properly usually means it is not malaria. A doctor should look for another cause, such as a urine, chest or throat infection, typhoid or a virus. If you stay unwell, the test can be repeated.
Do I need a malaria and typhoid test for every fever?
No. You need a doctor to decide which test answers the question. A malaria test should come first; typhoid is confirmed by a blood culture, not by a Widal test alone.
Can I pay at the lab?
No. You tick the test on Mezo, choose a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site that does it and pay online before you go. The price you pay is the price on this page, and the site has your order waiting when you arrive.
How do I get my result?
When the laboratory has checked and released your result, we send you a text message and you read it on Mezo, signed in to your account. If a doctor on Mezo asked for the test, they see it too. Mezo does not promise a result time on this page, because it depends on the test and the site.
