PSA test price in Nigeria
A PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test costs ₦34,500 on Mezo, paid online and done at a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site. A raised PSA does not mean you have cancer: an enlarged prostate, an infection and some activities can raise it too. It is worth talking it through with a doctor before the test, and having the result explained after.

What the test is for
PSA is a protein made by the prostate. The test cannot tell cancer from other prostate problems, and a result can be misleading, leading to tests and treatment that turn out not to be needed. That is why it is a choice a man makes with his doctor, not an automatic screen.
When a doctor asks for it
- Urinary symptoms such as a weak stream, straining, or getting up at night to pass urine
- A man who wants to know, after talking through what a raised result would lead to
- Family history of prostate cancer
- Monitoring after treatment for a prostate condition
How to prepare
- For 48 hours before the test, avoid ejaculating, anal sex and strenuous exercise such as cycling. These can raise PSA and make the result less accurate.
- You can eat and drink as normal.
- If you have had a urine infection, wait 4 to 6 weeks after it has cleared before testing.

In Lagos: a sample taken at home
In Lagos a nurse or phlebotomist can take your blood sample at home and bring it to the laboratory. It is booked and paid for online, with the price for your area shown before you pay. Home collection is only in Lagos for now.

How to book
- Tap Book. The PSA test is already ticked; add anything else on your request form.
- Choose your city and a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site that does every test you ticked.
- Pay once, online, by card or bank transfer. You get a code for the counter.
- Go to the site with your code. When the result is released, you read it on Mezo.

My PSA is high. Does that mean cancer?
No. A high PSA can come from an enlarged prostate, an infection or recent activity. A doctor decides what comes next, which may be a repeat test, an examination or a scan.
Can I pay at the lab?
No. You tick the test on Mezo, choose a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site that does it and pay online before you go. The price you pay is the price on this page, and the site has your order waiting when you arrive.
How do I get my result?
When the laboratory has checked and released your result, we send you a text message and you read it on Mezo, signed in to your account. If a doctor on Mezo asked for the test, they see it too. Mezo does not promise a result time on this page, because it depends on the test and the site.
