An anti-CCP test costs ₦48,000 on Mezo, paid online and done at a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site. It looks for an antibody found in many people with rheumatoid arthritis, and is more specific to it than rheumatoid factor. NICE suggests it when rheumatoid arthritis is suspected and rheumatoid factor is negative. A negative result does not rule rheumatoid arthritis out; swollen joints need a rheumatologist either way.

What the test is for
Anti-CCP antibodies are made by the immune system and can appear years before the joints swell. A positive result in someone with swollen joints strongly supports rheumatoid arthritis, and NICE notes it also signals a higher chance of joint damage on X-ray, which is a reason to start treatment early and keep to the reviews.
Rheumatoid factor is the other antibody test, and it is not on Mezo's laboratory list yet: a rheumatologist arranges it where it is needed. An ESR (₦8,000) shows whether there is inflammation, but not its cause.

What does a positive anti-CCP mean?
In someone with swollen joints, it strongly supports rheumatoid arthritis. A positive result without joint symptoms is uncommon and needs a rheumatologist to interpret it, not treatment on its own.
My anti-CCP is negative. Can I still have rheumatoid arthritis?
Yes. Some people with rheumatoid arthritis never make the antibody. NICE advises urgent referral for swollen joints even when the antibody tests are negative.
