ESR test price in Nigeria
An ESR test costs ₦8,000 on Mezo, paid online and done at a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site. ESR, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, measures how fast red blood cells settle in a tube, which rises when there is inflammation in the body. It is raised in inflammatory arthritis, but also in infection, anaemia, pregnancy and with age, so it is a clue, never a diagnosis on its own.

What the test is for
In arthritis, a raised ESR supports inflammation in the joints rather than wear and tear, and a falling ESR helps show that treatment is working. A normal ESR does not rule inflammatory arthritis out.
What counts as normal rises with age and is higher in women, so the result is read against the range on the report and your symptoms. It is often requested with an anti-CCP test (₦48,000) or a full blood count (₦13,000).

What does a high ESR mean?
That there may be inflammation somewhere in the body. Infection, inflammatory arthritis, anaemia, kidney disease, pregnancy and older age can all raise it. A doctor reads it with your symptoms and other tests.
Is ESR the same as CRP?
Both measure inflammation. CRP changes faster and is used to follow rheumatoid arthritis; it is not on Mezo's laboratory list yet, so a rheumatologist arranges it where it is needed.
Can I pay at the lab?
No. You tick the test on Mezo, choose a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site that does it and pay online before you go. The price you pay is the price on this page, and the site has your order waiting when you arrive.
How do I get my result?
When the laboratory has checked and released your result, we send you a text message and you read it on Mezo, signed in to your account. If a doctor on Mezo asked for the test, they see it too. Mezo does not promise a result time on this page, because it depends on the test and the site.
