A practice on Mezo

Plastic surgery in Lagos, led by a US board-certified surgeon

Anyone can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon, and in Lagos plenty do. Plastic surgery on Mezo is led by Dr Chinwe Kpaduwa, MD FACS, board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, through her practice, Lyfe Plastics & Dermatology. Every procedure below says who it suits, who it does not, what recovery really involves, and how the price is set.

How care works here

  1. 1

A consultation with the surgeon herself

Thirty minutes with Dr Kpaduwa by video for ₦150,000, put towards the total if you go on to have surgery. If the honest answer is to leave it alone, that is the answer you get.

  2. 2

Candidacy decided by a surgeon, not a salesperson

Nicotine, medicines and whether your weight is still changing all affect safety and timing. They are asked about and read by the clinical team before anyone offers a date.

  3. 3

    A written quote

Costings come from the team afterwards, in writing. Garments, dressings, medication and review appointments are priced into the number, not added to it later, and the price does not move without your written agreement.

  4. 4

    Aftercare at home in Lagos

You are given a named contact and a number that is answered. Plenty of Nigerians travel for surgery; what travels badly is week three.

Procedures, and how each is priced

Questions people ask

How much does plastic surgery cost in Lagos?

All-in starting prices with Dr Kpaduwa: a BBL from ₦9,500,000, a mommy makeover from ₦13,500,000, an arm lift from ₦10,000,000, a breast reduction from ₦10,000,000, a breast lift from ₦10,000,000, torn earlobe repair from ₦314,000, keloid excision from ₦308,000. Other operations are priced in a written quote after consultation, and every final figure is confirmed in writing. Dr Kpaduwa's video consultation is ₦150,000, put towards the total if you go ahead.

How do I find a good plastic surgeon in Lagos?

Look for three things: a board certification you can check yourself, a consultation with the surgeon rather than a salesperson, and a written quote that says what it includes. Anyone can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon in Nigeria; board certification in plastic surgery is a different and checkable claim.

How do I check a plastic surgeon is properly qualified?

Ask which board certified them, then check it yourself. American Board of Plastic Surgery certification can be checked on the board's own website, and you are encouraged to check Dr Kpaduwa's.

Why is the final price a written quote?

Because the same name covers very different operations on different bodies. Where a 'from' price is published it is the all-in starting price for the standard case; your final figure is set in a written quote after the consultation, covering surgeon, theatre, anaesthesia, stay, garments and reviews, and it does not move without your written agreement.

Is it cheaper to have surgery in Turkey or abroad?

Sometimes, for the operation alone. What travels badly is the weeks after. Here you are in front of a surgeon who has your notes when a question comes up in week three.

Can I use my HMO?

Cosmetic surgery is generally excluded by Nigerian HMO plans. Removal of a skin lesion for diagnosis is sometimes covered with prior authorisation. Ask your HMO in writing.
