- The surgeon, the anaesthetist and the theatre
- Where the operation takes place, named in writing
- Garments, dressings, medication and your review appointments, priced into the number rather than added afterwards

- Anything not listed in the written quote, which is costed for you before you decide rather than after
- Travel and accommodation if you are coming from outside Lagos

- Removing or exchanging existing implants, and the scar capsule around them
HMO plans in Nigeria generally treat cosmetic surgery as excluded. If you believe yours may contribute, ask the HMO before the consultation and bring the answer in writing.

The pathway, step by step

Thirty minutes with the surgeon herself, by video. You bring your goals, your history and photographs; she tells you what is involved, what she would and would not do, and whether you should be doing anything at all.

Examination and a written quote
An in-person examination in Lagos, then a written quote that says what is included and what is not. Costings come from the team in writing, not from the surgeon in the room.

Screening before a date is offered
Nicotine, medicines, blood pressure, and whether your weight is still changing all affect safety and timing. The clinical team reads your answers before anyone offers you a date.

Choosing size and approach
Implant type, size, and whether it sits above or below the muscle, decided against your measurements rather than a photograph.

Under general anaesthetic, usually a day case or one night.

Recovery, realistically
Week 1
Tightness and soreness across the chest, worse if the implant is under the muscle.
Weeks 1 to 2
Back to desk work for most people.

Upper body exercise and lifting return as the surgeon allows.
Months 3 to 6
Implants settle into their final position.
Risks you should be told about
- Capsular contracture: scar tissue tightening around the implant, sometimes needing further surgery
- Implant rupture or change of position over time
- Changes in nipple or breast sensation
- Infection and bleeding
- A rare lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) linked mainly to textured implants, which is why implant choice is discussed openly
- The likelihood of further surgery at some point in life, because implants are not lifetime devices
Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.

Implants or fat transfer?
Fat gives a modest, natural increase and needs fat to spare. Implants give a larger, more predictable change. Some people combine them.
Can I breastfeed with implants?
Many women can. It depends partly on where the incision is made, which is one of the things discussed at the consultation.
Can you remove or replace implants put in elsewhere?
Yes. Implant exchange, removal and removal of the scar capsule are all planned at the practice. Bring any records of the original operation you have.
