Keloid removal and scar revision in Lagos

A keloid is scar tissue that keeps growing beyond the original wound, and it is far commoner on Black skin. Cutting it out on its own usually brings it back bigger, so removal is always paired with treatment that stops the regrowth, such as steroid injections and pressure, over months. Wide, tight or raised scars are revised, and skin lumps removed with the tissue sent for testing.

All-in package

From ₦308,000, all-in

Keloid excision, all-in. Follow-up treatment and scar revision are quoted after consultation

Your final figure is a written quote after consultation, covering surgeon, theatre, anaesthesia, stay, garments and reviews.

What the price covers

  • The surgeon, the anaesthetist and the theatre
  • Where the operation takes place, named in writing
  • Garments, dressings, medication and your review appointments, priced into the number rather than added afterwards

What it does not cover

  • Anything not listed in the written quote, which is costed for you before you decide rather than after
  • Travel and accommodation if you are coming from outside Lagos

What would change this price

  • The number, size and position of the keloids or scars
  • Injections alone, or removal with injections afterwards
  • The number of follow-up treatment visits
  • Laboratory testing of removed tissue

Removal of a skin lesion for diagnosis is sometimes covered by HMO plans with prior authorisation. Cosmetic scar work generally is not. Ask your HMO in writing.

Who this is for

  • Keloids on the ears after piercing, or on the chest, shoulders, jaw or back
  • Scars that are wide, raised, tight or pulling
  • A keloid that itches, hurts or catches on clothing
  • Moles, cysts or skin lumps that need removing and testing

When it is not the right answer

  • Removal without the follow-up treatment, which is how keloids come back larger
  • Expecting a scar to disappear. Revision makes a scar better, not absent
  • Keloids that are still growing fast, which are often treated with injections before anything is cut

The pathway, step by step

  1. 1

    Consultation with Dr Kpaduwa₦150,000

Thirty minutes with the surgeon herself, by video. You bring your goals, your history and photographs; she tells you what is involved, what she would and would not do, and whether you should be doing anything at all.

  2. 2

    A plan before any cut

Whether to inject first, remove, or both, and what follows. Keloids are a long project and the plan is written down at the start.

  3. 3

    Examination and a written quote

An in-person examination in Lagos, then a written quote that says what is included and what is not. Costings come from the team in writing, not from the surgeon in the room.

  4. 4

    The procedure

Usually under local anaesthetic as a day case, often with an injection into the wound at the same time.

  5. 5

    Follow-up treatment

A series of visits for injections or pressure, over months. This is the part that stops the keloid returning.

Recovery, realistically

Weeks 1 to 2

Stitches out. Little downtime for most people.

Months 1 to 6

Follow-up visits for injections or pressure, at the intervals in your plan.

Months 6 to 18

The scar matures. Any sign of regrowth is treated early rather than waited on.

Risks you should be told about

  • The keloid returning, sometimes larger, the main risk and the reason for the follow-up plan
  • Lightening or thinning of the skin from steroid injections, more visible on darker skin
  • Infection
  • A new scar at the stitch line

Every operation carries risk. A surgeon who lists none is not being straight with you. Yours will go through these with you before you consent.

Questions people ask

How much does keloid removal cost in Lagos?

From ₦308,000, all-in (Keloid excision. Follow-up treatment and scar revision are quoted after consultation). Your final figure is a written quote after consultation, covering surgeon, theatre, anaesthesia, stay, garments and reviews. Her video consultation is ₦150,000 and is put towards the total if you go ahead.

Will my keloid come back?

It can, and anyone who promises it will not is not being straight with you. Pairing removal with follow-up treatment makes it much less likely.

Is a keloid cancer?

No. Keloids are benign. Any lump that is changing quickly or looks unusual is still examined, and removed tissue can be sent for testing.

Can I pierce my ears again after an ear keloid?

It carries a real risk of another keloid. If you want to, discuss it at the consultation rather than with a piercer.

Prices shown are in naira and were last checked on 7 October 2026. A “from” price is the all-in starting price for the standard case. Every operation is confirmed in a written quote after your consultation, because the right operation for you, and its cost, depend on what the surgeon finds.
