Gynecomastia surgery in Lagos
Enlarged breast tissue in men is removed, usually through a small incision at the edge of the areola, with liposuction to blend the chest. The cause is checked first, because a minority of cases come from medicines, hormones or anabolic steroids that need dealing with before any operation.

- The surgeon, the anaesthetist and the theatre
- Where the operation takes place, named in writing
- Garments, dressings, medication and your review appointments, priced into the number rather than added afterwards

- Anything not listed in the written quote, which is costed for you before you decide rather than after
- Travel and accommodation if you are coming from outside Lagos
What decides your quote
- Gland removal, liposuction, or both
- Excess skin that needs removing, usually after weight loss
- Local or general anaesthetic
HMO plans in Nigeria generally treat cosmetic surgery as excluded. If you believe yours may contribute, ask the HMO before the consultation and bring the answer in writing.

Finding the cause
Medicines, supplements and steroid use are asked about without judgement. Blood tests are arranged where the picture suggests a hormone cause.

An in-person examination in Lagos, then a written quote that says what is included and what is not. Costings come from the team in writing, not from the surgeon in the room.

Often a day case. Liposuction and removal of the firm gland behind the nipple.

A compression vest for several weeks, and named follow-up.

Week 1
Bruising and swelling. Back to desk work within days for most men.

The compression vest comes off. Chest exercises return.

Risks you should be told about
- Contour irregularity, or a dip under the nipple if too much is removed
- Numbness of the nipple
- A fluid or blood collection
- Asymmetry
- Return of the tissue if the cause continues

Is it just fat?
Sometimes. True gynecomastia is firm gland tissue, which diet and exercise do not shift. Most men have a mixture, which is why gland removal and liposuction are usually combined.
Will it come back?
Not if the cause has gone. Steroid use, some medicines and significant weight gain can bring it back.
