ECG test price in Nigeria
An ECG (electrocardiogram) costs ₦24,000 on Mezo, paid online and done at a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site. Small sticky patches on the chest, arms and legs record the heart's electrical activity for a few minutes, showing its rate and rhythm. It is quick and painless. Chest pain happening now is not a reason to book an ECG: go to an emergency department.

What it is for
Doctors ask for an ECG when symptoms could come from the heart's rhythm or its blood supply, such as palpitations, to follow a known heart condition, and before or during some medicines.
A resting ECG records only the few minutes it is running. If your palpitations come and go, a normal tracing does not mean nothing is wrong, and a doctor may arrange a portable recording worn for a day or more.
An ECG records the heart's electrical activity; an echocardiogram (₦74,800) is an ultrasound that shows its structure and pumping. They answer different questions.
When a doctor asks for it
- Palpitations: a heart that races, pounds, flutters or skips
- Light-headedness or dizzy spells, after a doctor has seen you
- A known heart condition, to follow it
- Before or during some medicines that can affect the heart
How to prepare
- Wear a top that is easy to take off.
- Do not put body lotion, oil or talc on your chest that day, so the patches stick.
- Some men need a little chest hair shaved where the patches go. You can ask for a chaperone.
Go to the nearest emergency department now, not a lab, for
- Chest pain or tightness, especially if it spreads to the arms, neck or jaw
- Palpitations with chest pain, breathlessness, dizziness or fainting
Where you can do it
At BeaconHealth Diagnostics sites in 19 cities, at the same price in each. Not every site has every machine, so when you book you are offered only the sites that do this test.
Done at the site, not at home
A ECG is booked at a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site and done there, on the site's own machine. It is not collected at home: home collection on Mezo is for blood samples only. Call the site before you go to ask how to prepare and when to come; its number is on its city page.
In Lagos, a consultant cardiologist can also do an ECG and an echocardiogram at your home, at the same visit, as a home heart check. That is a different service, with the cardiologist's consultation and its own price. See the home heart check

Does an ECG hurt?
No. You lie still for a few minutes while the patches record. Taking the patches off can feel like removing a plaster.

Can I pay at the lab?
No. You tick the test on Mezo, choose a BeaconHealth Diagnostics site that does it and pay online before you go. The price you pay is the price on this page, and the site has your order waiting when you arrive.
How do I get my result?
When the laboratory has checked and released your result, we send you a text message and you read it on Mezo, signed in to your account. If a doctor on Mezo asked for the test, they see it too. Mezo does not promise a result time on this page, because it depends on the test and the site.
